Lots of interest was shown in the Trust's display at RailEx, held at the Horticultural Hall, Lower Hutt over the weekend of 27-28 October.
On display was a sign made by Weta Workshops for the Trust, an interpretative piece based on a mix of traditional railway signal components. The signage area is attached to the main mast with two brackets inspired by McKenzie and Holland semaphore signal gantry designs, the mast topped by a finial from the same era, whereas the base reflects those used with early colour light signals. This was the first public display of the sign, which will be installed at the Trust's Maymorn site shortly.
The display also covered recent progress with the rail vehicle shed, our shunting locomotive Tr189, double slip and other track work under way, along with plans for development of our Maymorn site.
Keen interest was also shown in a neighbouring display by the Wellington Multiple Unit Preservation Heritage Trust, who are working hard to preserve at least one of the English Electric multiple unit sets that were retired from service earlier this year.
